arthur_old1.jpgArthur Bloomfield writes on music, food and architecture. His books include The San Francisco Opera 1922-78, The Gastronomical Tourist (now online at www.thegastronomicaltourist.com) and Gables and Fables. For the Music & Arts label he programmed the selections and wrote the extensive album notes for the 13-CD collection Sunday Evenings with Pierre Monteux which was nominated for a Gramophone award. A graduate in music from Stanford University, he participated as a member of the University Chorus in performances conducted by Bruno Walter and Pierre Monteux. He comes from a musical family including the pianists Moriz Rosenthal, Fannie Bloomfield Zeisler and Heinrich Neuhaus. In the 1970s Arthur Bloomfield was a music critic for the San Francisco Examiner; and in the 80s he wrote for the London-based Opera.
